Shepherd Community Symphony Orchestra
(SCSO)
The Shepherd Institute Symphony Orchestra is a division of the Advanced and Artist String and Band Departments. Students come together to experience the “Joy of Music Making” performing music of the Masters in the Orchestra.
Membership is by selection of the teachers. Students can also audition; and need to be able to perform from memory 3 flat scales and 3 sharp scales in two octaves and also be able to play one movement of a concerto of their choice. The Symphony features all instruments combining woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. Symphony pieces are performed by such composers as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms as well as Gershwin and Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc.
The SCSO season includes 3 terms and a minimum of six performances per year for the community.
