Vocal Department

Vocal

The Vocal Department is made up of:

  • Concert Children’s Chorus (Grades 1-5)
  • Young Men In Harmony (High School through College)
  • Young Women In Harmony (8th grade – College)

The Vocal Department places strong emphasis on basic to advanced ear training, principles of singing, including posture, breath control, vocal freedom, resonance and diction, tonal placement followed by vocalizations, pitch/intonation, styles of music, projection, note reading and
counting /rhythm,

The Children’s Choir repertoire includes singing of Classical Music, Carols, Broadway Pops music in 2 part harmony. Students acquire motivation and self esteem.

The Young Men In Harmony is a barbershop style of choral singing. This will teach these young men to sing in a acapella style. Young Women In Harmony is a sweet adeline style of choral singing acapella.

A project each Winter Semester is preparing for the community “Sing –A-Long” of the Lenten/Easter Portions of George Frederik’s “Messiah,” as well as annual Community Concerts. All concerts are held on the campus of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in the Shepherd Auditorium.

The Vocal Department Season includes three terms and a minimum of 4 performances for the community.
